If you ever dreamed of or simply contemplated a lifestyle that includes owning your own mountain vacation home, you owe it to yourself to visit The Summit at Lost River. This community of up to 35 two- and three-bedroom mountain homes — currently 23 are built and occupied — is located in the natural beauty of the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia at the base of the eastern panhandle.

The Lost River Valley is about 2 hours west of Washington, DC and two hours north of Charlottesville, VA. Just an hour and half to the west are the renowned year-round recreation areas of Canaan Valley, Snowshoe and Timberline Resorts.

Like most things, Lost River has evolved over the years. While the agriculture-based local community continues to thrive, weekenders and transplanted full-timers have added new dimensions. In the last 20 years or so thousands of gay men and women have enjoyed weekends, vacations, and other holidays at The Guest House at Lost River. Many fell in love with the area and bought or built vacation homes here. Today the style of those vacation homes ranges from modest seasonal cabins to luxurious retreats. What began in the 1980s as a little-known gay and lesbian enclave is now for many Washingtonians a relaxing alternative to the Rehoboth Beach social scene.

The Summit at Lost River is the third community of weekend vacation homes developed by RBD, Inc. here in Lost River. The first community was Stonewall in nearby Mathias and the second was Stonewall II in Lost City, also nearby. With each iteration, the amenities of these vacation homes have been enhanced.

So take a day-trip to Lost River to see The Summit for yourself, or spend a couple of nights at The Guest House at Lost River and explore the entire area.
